4th Character: Gumei, Vagabond

 4th Character: Gumei, Vagabond

4th day and finally a new character! This time, I chose the game Vagabond by Land of the Blind, a fairly recent OSR-ish game that I managed to pick up right before Christmas! I say OSR-ish, because it says the game is fairly compatible with old school adventure and there is an emphasis on Dungeon Crawling and the like, but it does thing in a pretty unique fashion with only the players rolling dice, using clocks and allowing some character building with a Perk system, for those like me who do prefer the character creation aspect from starting with D&D 3e. The character is Gumei the alchemist, I was planning on starting her off with Pathfinder 2e, but I decided to showcase another system to start with instead! I'm also planning of creating her in a few different system, but I'm undecided if I'll do all of her in a row or if I'd rather sprinkle her various version over the month. I guess we'll see how I feel tomorrow!

Good old 1 page character sheet! It was pretty quick to create Gumei in Vagabond, all I had to do is pick up her stat spread, her class and her ancestry to start with! Since she's a human, I also had to give her a +1 to a stat, pick an extra training and a perk, otherwise I would just need to write down what her ancestry and class would give her. I used the official form-fillable character sheet and discovered a little bug where it calculates your success chance for you, but doesn't take into consideration your training and wouldn't let me manually input the values. I had to go in MS Paint to fix it up! I wanted her to be a bit more of a support character, but she can't learn to craft Healing Potion until level 5! Thankfully, she had an extra perk to learn Combat Medic, allowing her to heal someone for 1d6+7, which is a lot as a level 1 character has 7 HP max, as far as I can tell. I gave her training in Ranged so she has an option to defend herself when she's out of Material, at first I got her a longbow, but realized it didn't leave me with enough money or inventory for ammunition! So, I gave her a light crossbow instead and forgot to give her back 30 silvers for the price difference between the longbow and the light crossbow+a case of ammunition.

Story-wise, I guess we're supposed to keep it simple! She's an alchemist, she got a mushroom growing on her head as an hat and she's adventuring for money so she can craft more stuff and get better at Alchemy. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the result, Vagabond seems to be a pretty fun game!
