6th character: Gumei, Pathfinder 2e
6th character: Gumei, Pathfinder 2e
And now, the sixth day! Much later than the previous few, the curse of being back to work! At least with Pathbuilder on my phone I could work a little on this Gumei on the side, with the version I intended to start with. When I got the design that became Gumei, I immediately told myself "That's a Pathfinder Alchemist, look at her jugs!" and I knew that would be perfect for the challenge. You do lose some of the fun of character creation with these various software instead of writing it down, but with systems like Pathfinder and Mutants&Masterminds, the benefits outweigh that lost. Anyway, I knew I wanted her to be a bomber and a human, so that part was quickly done. Looking over the background for something that would give a bonus to dex or int, I saw the Traveling Gourmand and that's just too fun to pass over! So this version of Gumei is not on a quest for revenge or money, but just living her best life traveling the world, seeking marvelous ingredient and new culinary experience! She still blew her eye out while practicing alchemy, but she still doesn't let that take the wind out of her sail. Go, Gumei!
I kept her level 1 cause I didn't want to get too lost in the weed with her inventory, Pathfinder 2e puts a big emphasis on gear as you level up and it goes double for the Alchemist! Hmm, I enjoy goofing around on Pathbuilder, but the sheet it output is not really great. I would for sure just write one out if I were playing in person, but it's cool for online play and for safekeeping. Maybe outputting the stat block instead would look nicer? Guess I'll try later on. Back to Gumei, the remaster of Pathfinder 2e got rid of Alignment, giving us field for attitude where it was very hard to not write cool but rude, and edict and anathema, things you try to live up to for the first and action to avoid for the second. I played into the wandering gourmand aspect, making her a bit of a cook, a bit of a druggy still, easy-going and always seeking new experience, with a somewhat non-violent screed that does not include blowing up monsters as violence. Now, it's not done yet as I kept her level 1, but I made her with the popular Free Archetype optional rule, already choosing the Ostilli Host dedication, making her mushroom hat officially a living symbiotic creature growing on her head! Usually, you need to be a Surki, some cool underground insect people, to choose that option, but the description makes it clear other ancestry can and do host Ostili too! So, Gumei spent some time among the Surki before the campaign begins, learning their cuisine, teaching them some of her ways, bonding with a mushroom-ish creature that likes growing on her head. Fun!
Part of why I dislike the sheet is that it hides a ton of info! I don't even think it shows her Alchemist's Toolkit despite it being the first thing in her gear in Pathbuilder! Nor does it shows the formula I chose for her. I picked up a Mutagen that gives her a bonus to throwing bombs and other dexterity checks, a glue bomb and a bomb that blow up your mind, maaaaan. Then a few elixir, including one that heal, one that makes you faster, one that gives temporary HP every round and the final one is the Fantasy HRT. Not for herself, but she gotta be ready to help the trans homies or for weird player characters' shenanigans to force fem a villain or whatever. The final pick went to just plain Alcohol, mostly cause I was getting a bit tired of working on the sheet, I don't have a ton of time on my evenings, Star Trek TNG is leaving Netflix in 2 days and I'm still just on season 4!

So that's that! See you tomorrow as we end the first week of the Challenge! I was planning on doing her in D&D 5e as an Artificer just to compare, but... it's just pretty boring to create a character in 5e. Still, at least it's easy, it's choosing a background and despairing at the small amount of skill choices that usually end up taking time for me. See ya!
