Day 15th: Jerribeth Rodoric, Fantasy AGE 2e
Day 15th: Jerribeth Rodoric, Fantasy AGE 2e
And we return on the dawn of the third week of the 2026 Character Creation Challenge! Have you been looking at what other people have been creating? I'm mostly stalking the tag on Bluesky, stealing a few furtive glances at what my fellow TTRPG fans are doing over there. Cool mix of old school games and newer more narrative games, I recommend taking a look if you aren't already! Back to me for the moment however, I returned to Fantasy AGE 2e to make a Wildfolk Warrior to contrast the Human Rogue I made in the first week! This time, I didn't cheat to replace a starting talent with one much that worked closer to my basic concept and actually used the rule for random character creation, even though I still had a concept for the character, some sort of Knightly type!
I started by rolling the stats, going 3d6 down the line, but note that the dice rolls refers to a chart, remember that it goes from -2 to 4. I didn't note my exact result, but I rolled fairly average, lots of 0 and 2 with a 1 and 3 with no negative, for a total of 10. If you remember the blog post for Fantasy Age Gumei, you may remember than point buy gives you a total of 13 Attribute Rating, so I actually have to upgrade my attributes until they all total 13. From my comprehension, I can only upgrade a given attribute by one point once, unless my stats were so terrible that it would still fall short of the minimum! That wasn't my case, so I upgraded three stats that seemed good for a warrior and swapped Fighting with Dexterity, as we do get the option to swap two attributes around. For the species, I picked Wildfolk, we do not actually have a table to roll on if we wanted to randomly choose! We do have the option to roll 2d6 to determine our two racial benefits instead of picking two, I rolled 5 twice so I got a focus in Tracking and decided to pick the second one, choosing +1 Fighting to be good at swords. As Wildfolk, we also get to roll 1d6 or choose our animal base to then pick a special benefit, but I was going to play a rat so Rodent it is! I picked Dark Sight, essentially night vision and I'm noting that Rodents and Canines are the only options who can't pick a natural weapon. Rodents are pretty famous for their ability to gnaw through almost anything and canines are doing pretty well with their teeth, but sure. Not that it would have been something I would pick with this character, those uses perception for damage and probably Accuracy for attack, both of which are 0, so...
Moving on, I rolled social class, getting Lower Class, then rolling on the Lower Class table gets me Sailor! Pretty wild curve to throw me, I didn't have a strong background in mind but sailor certainly wasn't it! That's the fun of random generation! I note a Sailing focus and move on to class. As I said at the start, this character was going to be a Warrior, so I move down to that section, rolling a 6 for my HP, giving me 39HP to start with! I noted down the specializations I have access to, pick up 4 weapons training, get Armor training for free and then get to pick two fighting styles for my starting talent. The Rogue only had one talent and technically no Armor training, but it had a few extra starting benefit instead! I pick Weapon and Shield Style and Throwing Style to have some range option, then I skipped ahead to the Specializations to choose. Naturally, seeing a Knight option, I went there first but discovered it's almost entirely bonus for mounted combat! Interesting, but looking ahead revealed that a horse is 50x my starting money, so, huh, something to work up to! I did note down a few interesting choice before settling on Champion. For now, it gives my opponent a penalty to attack when I charge them and later on, bonus to my allies. Guardian and Arcane Disciple are both intriguing options too!
For the equipment, everyone gets a backpack, waterskin and traveler's garb, then warriors get heavy leather armor and three weapons. I choose a Bastard Sword and two throwing spears to complement my fighting style, my Accuracy and Perception being too bad to bother with real ranged weapons. As I have the Weapon and Shield style, I also get a medium shield. Now, since I rolled my social class and background randomly, my starting money is 25+3d6, for a total of 32 silver pieces. If you remember, Gumei was from a even lower social class, being a vagabond, but I chose it so she started with more than double that amount of Silver Pieces. In short, don't roll Social Class and Background randomly or do it in secret so the game doesn't know and you get decent starting money. Weird, weird rule. Anyway, I spend half of my money buying a blanket and bedroll, hopefully she doesn't starve to death and someone lets her cuddle up in their tent. Sheesh.
We're in the end game now, starting with the name. The first name Jerribeth popped into my head and I went to Wikipedia to look at list of cheeses to choose her last name. Peeking back at the Wildfolk description, they have shorter name and Clan names are more Warcraft Elf last names, but tough, Mouse girls get cheese last name. Funnily enough, her family may not be mouses or even rodents, which is interesting. Moving on to the goals, I wanted her to take the Knight specialization, so she hopes to be knighted in universe as one goal. Getting a Horse is another, these guys are so expensive! As for her last goal, what's better for an aspirant knight than saving a princess? As with Gumei, I invented her a party with one of each classes for the ties. I then wrote a basic little backstory and that's that!
